Building on his debut game for Rayo Vallecano, Ghanaian defender Abdul Mumin has made his first start in the La Liga and lasted the entire duration against Atletico Madrid.

Mumin played 16 minutes for Rayo in a 2-3 loss to Athletic Bilbao to mark his debut game in the Spanish top tier on September 17.

The young defender played as a starter for the first time earlier tonight since joining Rayo from Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes this offseason.

Mumin started in Rayo’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid playing on the right side of central defence lining up next to Alejandro Catena in a four man backline.

Atletico striker Antoine Griezmann assisted fellow striker Alvaro Morata for the game’s opening goal in the 20th minute. Rayo got the equalizer in the 93rd minute through veteran Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.

Former Right To Dream Academy player Mumin’s jump into the starting unit is a big boost to his chances of making it to the Black Stars squad due to compete at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Rayo is scheduled to play Cadiz next in La Liga on Saturday, October 22.
