John Mahama calls for Black Stars to be depoliticized

Former Ghana President John Dramani Mahama has called for the Black Stars to be “depoliticized” mere weeks ahead of the commencement of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ghana has qualified to compete at the World Cup for the fourth time ever and this year’s World Cup commences on November 20. Ghana has been drawn in Group H with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.

Ex-President Mahama made the poignant statement in his speech when a high powered entourage from the Ghana Football Association (GFA) headlined by GFA President Kurt Okraku presented a Black Stars jersey to him.

While calling for support for the Black Stars World Cup campaign, the former Ghanaian President cautioned against getting the team tangled in politics.

“We must depoliticize the-Black- Stars. If the Stars win, it’s not credit to one political party or the other, it’s credit to all of Ghana. It doesn’t matter under which administration it wins the Cup or not. Those boys are all over our country. Let’s all support them.”

The Black Stars competed at the 2014 World Cup held in Brazil when John Mahama served as President of Ghana.
