‘National team spot is based on what you do for your club’ – Richard Ofori

Ghana goalkeeper, Richard Ofori has indicated the criterion to be used to select players to represent the national football team, the Black Stars.

According to South African media outlet Sowetan Live, the former Wa All Stars player believes being called up to the national team is an accumulation of a player’s performances at club level.

The shot-stopper recently recovered from injury to train with the rest of the Orlando Pirates team ahead of the Soweto Derby clash this weekend against Kaizer Chiefs.

The big clash kicks off on Saturday, October 29 at 13:30 GMT.

“The national team is based on what you do for your club. I don’t think about the national team at the moment because if you are not fit in your club, the national team is useless” Ofori said.

Ofori’s return from injury allay fears he might end up missing out on the Black Stars squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Ofori featured in Ghana’s surprise qualification to the World Cup for the fourth time.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group H with Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay.
