Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club board member, Vincent Sowah-Odotei, has labeled the tense relationship between the club’s board and some sections of the fan base as football politics.

In recent years, fans of the club have been very vocal and strong in their responses and reactions towards the board vis-a-vis happenings that concern the club. The most recent episode saw supporters vandalising vehicles belonging to some board members at the Accra Sports Stadium when the team faced AS Real Bamako on October 16.

While he did accept the board was at fault for some of the backlash it attracts by not regularly communicating with fans, the main reason for the tense relationship between the two bodies is down to politics.

It’s all part of the football politics. Part of it is to do, we admit, with regular communication but part of it is to do with politics because some of the concerns of the supporters are unjustified. The past two years, Hearts of Oak has been the most successful club…if you don’t have any other mind you must see what we are doing. We know what we are doing and we’ve done a lot for this great club…we are committed and we are determined to take it to the levels that it deserves” he stated on the sidelines of the commissioning of the club’s Supporters Liaison Office at the Fiore Heights to mark Hearts of Oak’s 111th anniversary celebration.
