Black Stars maintain unbeaten record in their second game at every World Cup

The Black Stars picked up a very important 3-2 victory against South Korea on Monday.

The result takes Otto Addo’s team a step closer to sealing a Round of 16 place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Most Ghanaians were a bit concerned heading into today’s game, considering the quality of a South Korean side, which included Tottenham forward, Son Heung-min.

However, based on this particular stat, they probably needn’t have worried.

Today’s win continued Ghana’s streak of never having lost their second match at a World Cup tournament.

In 2006, following a 2-0 opening-day loss to Italy, the Black Stars bounced back superbly against the Czech Republic.

Asamoah Gyan and Sulley Muntari were on target as the Stars picked up their first-ever World Cup win.

At the 2010 World Cup, Ghana faced Australia days after a late 1-0 win over Serbia.

An Asamoah Gyan penalty cancelled out Brett Holman’s strike for the Aussies, and the Black Stars held on for a point.

At Brazil 2014, the Stars needed a big result against Germany after losing their opener to the United States.

Goals from Andre Ayew and Asamoah Gyan helped the Black Stars picked up a point against the eventual world champions.

On Monday, four days after the loss to Portugal, the Black Stars took on South Korea needing to avoid defeat to stay in the competition.

A brace from Kudus Mohammed and a goal from Mohammed Salisu helped Ghana stave off a second-half charge from the Koreans to maintain their rather unique streak.
