Ghanaian striker Abdul Aziz Yakubu has ended his goal drought by scoring in Rio Ave’s Portuguese League matchup against Arouca on Saturday.
Yakubu’s converted penalty in the 59th minute proved to be the winner as Rio Ave registered its fifth win in 13 league games to move to ninth place in the Portuguese top flight.
Prior to tonight’s game, Yakubu had endured a five game stretch where he failed to find the back of the net in the league dating back to Rio Ave’s 1-0 win over Santa Clara on October 2.
Yakubu has scored six goals in 13 league games with three assists this season in the face of missing out on a call up to Ghana’s Black Stars.
Ghana’s 55 man provisional squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar was released recently and the final list is to be announced on Monday, November 14.
Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams headlined the group of strikers listed in the provisional squad ahead of the announcement.
Fellow Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Boateng missed his penalty attempt in the 64th minute.
