Black Stars goalkeeper, Richard Ofori has won the MTN 8 title for the second time in his career after aiding Orlando Pirates to a 1-0 win over Amazulu.
The win comes on the back of Pirates’ 0-1 loss to Kaizer Chiefs in the Soweto Derby, which saw Ofori on the bench after making a return from injury only a few days earlier.
Ofori won the title for the first time with Pirates in the 2020 season after securing a move from fellow South African side, Maritzburg United.
Speaking in the postgame interview, Ofori sounded off his excitement about the win and his call-up to the provisional Black Stars squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
“I am very excited because this is my second MTN 8 trophy win. I am very excited so much excited and then I thank God for making part of the 55-man provisional squad for the World Cup, and this is the moment we were all looking for,” he said. (Click highlighted text to watch interview)
Ofori, who captained Orlando Pirates in the win over Amazulu, is one of five goalkeepers called up to Ghana Black Stars’ provisional World Cup squad.
