Ghana goalkeeper, Richard Ofori, has thanked fans and followers of Orlando Pirates for their support in the aftermath of the team’s victory in the final of the MTN 8 tournament.

Pirates won the final played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban via a lone goal scored by Monnapule Saleng in the 25th minute.

Ofori returned to man the post for Pirates after he missed out when they lost 1-0 to their arch rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, in the DStv Premier League the week before.

After the match, he told SuperSport that he and his team mates were very grateful to their fans and their continuous support of the team through the run to the final of the MTN 8 and even in the face of setbacks like the loss to Chiefs.

“It was not an easy match and we knew that Amazulu would come with force and they had nothing to lose. We are a big team so we that the match would be tough.

This moment is so great and after the match, we went to the fans to celebrate with them.

We want to thank them for their support throughout this journey when we played against Royal AM and even when we lost against Chiefs. They were still behind us and so, this victory is for them and we thank them so much.”

The MTN 8 competition is played among the team’s that finished between 1st and 8th in the previous season’s league campaign and it is played on the knockout basis with the ultimate winners taking away 8 million rand which is about GHS 6.3 million cedis.
