Netherlands right full back Jeremie Agyekum Frimpong is still eligible to play for Ghana’s Black Stars despite getting called up to the Dutch team that competed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Netherlands got eliminated from the tournament at the quarterfinal stage after losing 3-4 to Argentina in a penalty shootout. The game ended 2-2 at the end of regulation time and the score stayed same at the end of extra time.
Frimpong didn’t play in any of the Netherlands five games in Qatar meaning he is still eligible to represent Ghana or England in international football at the senior level.
The Bayer Leverkusen player has represented the Dutch at various junior levels and doing same at the senior level was deemed inevitable considering Frimpong’s fine form since joining Leverkusen in the 2021-2022 season.
Frimpong is still eligible to play for England after his family moved to England when he was seven years old and the former Celtic player is eligible to play for Ghana through his Ghanaian mother.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has in recent lured European born players of Ghanaian descent to play for the Black Stars including Inaki Williams (born in Spain) and Tariq Lamptey (born in England).
Ghana crashed out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after picking up just three points in three games against Portugal, South Korea and Uruguay in Group H.
