Otto Addo

Former Black Stars player and head coach Otto Addo has hit out at Ghanaians over what he deemed as a show of negativity during his tenure as Black Stars head coach.

He lashed out at his critics in a post game presser where he announced he will honour his word to leave the Black Stars head coaching role and focus on his coaching job at German league side Borussia Dortmund once Ghana’s World Cup campaign ended.

Ghana lost 0-2 to Uruguay in the final round of games at the group phase to crash out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup taking place in Qatar with the Black Stars needing a draw or a win to progress to the Round of 16.

“We have to build up more of our mindset and this goes for the players but also for the public. I like that everybody has expectations but also I feel and I see people show me a lot of negativity…and for me personally, I will never understand the mentality of rooting against a human to fail and there are some people doing this. I will never understand this” he said after the loss.

Otto Addo took over head coaching duties with the Black Stars on a part time basis and steered Ghana to eliminate arch rival Nigeria to book a place in this year’s World Cup.

Ghana (white) lost 0-2 to Uruguay in the final game to crash out of the World Cup.

In Doha, the Black Stars lost 2-3 to Portugal and beat South Korea 3-2 but suffered the disappointing loss to Uruguay in the final Group H game.
