Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club midfielder Gladson Awako has stated he wanted to play for the Phobia club before calling it quits on his football career.
He said this after extending his contract with Hearts till 2024 with an option to extend ; Awako was in the final year of his deal prior to the extension.
The veteran creative midfielder joined Hearts of Oak in the lead up to the 2021-2022 league season from rival club Accra Great Olympics.
He endured a rocky start to life in the Phobia camp as he was a no show for long stretches in the campaign that had Hearts finish sixth in the standings after winning the title in the previous campaign.
“I am very happy to have extended my contract with this beautiful family. It’s amazing because this is my childhood club and it’s a club that I have always wanted to play before I quit football in the future. I will continue to work hard and promote the global of our glorious club” he stated to Hearts of Oak’s channel.
The 2009 Under 20 FIFA World Cup winner has two goals and an assist in seven games this season for Hearts of Oak as he prepares to represent Ghana at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in January 2023.
