Luis Suarez was pictured weeping on the bench moments before the final whistle against Ghana as Uruguay crashed out of the 2022 World Cup despite picking up a 2-0 win.

Suarez was in a joyous mood after playing a key role in both of Uruguay’s goals but his demeanour at the end of the match was way different.

South Korea’s 2-1 win over Portugal in the other group game meant the Koreans went through with the Portuguese.

The Uruguayans and Korea finished level on four points and a goal difference of 0 but the Asians had score two more goals than the South Americans In Qatar.

Uruguay seemed content with their 2-0 lead over Ghana but the result in the other game left them needing to score another.

With time ticking down, Suarez, who had been substituted earlier was seen on the bench, unable to control his tears as Uruguay edged towards a group stage exit.

The former Liverpool and Barcelona striker went through a range of emotions, putting the shirt over his head, placing his hands on his head and gnawing at the jersey.

His fears were confirmed as the ref blew his final whistle, knocking out both Ghana and Uruguay.
