Andre Ayew celebrates after scoring equalizer against Portugal

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially released a statement thanking stakeholders involved in the Black Stars 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar while apologizing for the missed opportunity to make it to the Round of 16 stage.

In the statement released after Ghana’s 0-2 loss to Uruguay in the last of three Group H games for either nation, the GFA also highlighted “valuable lessons” picked in the course of the tournament.

Needing to avoid a loss to Uruguay, the Black Stars had a big chance to qualify to the Round of 16 stage for the third in four World Cup appearances but the team succumbed to a its second loss in the tournament.

Ghana finished bottom of Group H with three points; Portugal and South Korea progressed from the group and take on Switzerland and Brazil respectively.

Otto Addo announced his resignation from his role as head coach of the Black Stars after the loss and in the process, honoured his word to focus on his coaching role with German league side Borussia Dortmund after this year’s World Cup.
