Al Nassr deny Ronaldo involvement in Saudi World Cup bid

Cristiano Ronaldo’s new club Al Nassr has stated that his contract with the club “does not entail commitments to any World Cup bids”.

Ronaldo’s move to the Saudi Arabian side prompted suggestions that his contract included provisions for him to help promote the Gulf state’s potential bid for the 2030 World Cup.

But Al Nassr have now publicly clarified the situation regarding Ronaldo’s deal.

It said on Tuesday: “Al Nassr FC would like to clarify that contrary to news reports, Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr does not entail commitments to any World Cup bids.

“His main focus is on Al Nassr and to work with his teammates to help the club achieve success.”

The battle for the hosting rights to the 2030 edition of the tournament is already taking shape, with Saudi Arabia expected to launch a joint bid with Greece and Egypt. Spain, Portugal and Ukraine have formally launched a joint pan-European bid.
