Black Stars: Kwesi Appiah should not have applied to be Head Coach – Abe Pobee

Experienced Ghanaian Football Administrator, Jonathan Abe Pobee has questioned Kwesi Appiah’s application to be the Black Stars Head Coach for the third time.

According to him, the factors that hindered the 62-year-old’s stints in charge of the Senior National Team still exist.

Appiah was appointed Head Coach of the Black Stars in April, 2012 and subsequently qualified the team for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He left the Senior National Team role by mutual consent in September 2014.

But, he returned in April 2017.

The Ex-Kumasi Asante Kotoko trainer left the Ghana job for the second time in December 2019 after the GFA failed to renew his contract for an underwhelming 2019 AFCON campaign.

Kwesi Appiah has once again shown interest in managing the Black Stars following the departure of Otto Addo, who resigned at the end of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Many believed that the GFA influenced Kwesi Appiah’s decisions as Coach of Ghana.

Abe Pobee told Citi Sports:

“Kwesi Appiah shouldn’t have applied.

Because, in his own book that he has written, and he has mentioned some names.

Those people who were not giving him chance to do his work.

These people where are they? Are they not in existence.

So, why is Kwesi Appiah coming back?

Reports indicate that the Sudanese Football Association and Tanzania club, Simba SC are interested in securing the services of Kwesi Appiah.
