Getting injured against Liverpool slowed my football development- Mohammed Kudus

Black Stars attacker Mohammed Kudus believes the injury he suffered against Liverpool on his Champions League debut in the 2020/21 season slowed his development in football.

Kudus made his Champions League debut for Ajax in a game against Liverpool; His Champions League debut however lasted nine minutes after suffering an injury in the ninth minute of the game.

The former Nordsjaelland player believes that moment hurt his career’s progression after an incredible start with Ajax where he had a goal and three assists in three games for the Dutch giant.

“It slowed my development in football but it was good for my mental health and upbringing as a footballer,” he told Ajax TV.

Kudus has since recovered and is proving to be one of the best talents in European football. He has scored seven goals in seven starts for Ajax in the Eredivise, and four goals in the Champions League.

He believes that injury against Liverpool contributed in shaping his life outside the pitch.

Kudus was named Man of the Match against Rangers in this season’s UEFA Champions League Group stage.

“When you’re out of the pitch, you get it that there is more to life than playing football. You focus your energy on other aspects of life and even though I was not playing and developing my game, I was developing as a person and a human,” Kudus added.

He starred at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by scoring twice and registering an assist in three games for Ghana’s Black Stars.

Kudus won the Men’s Foreign Based Footballer of the Year and Sports Personality of the Year Awards respectively at the 47th SWAG Awards. (Click highlighted text to read full story)
