Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu is the target of an ongoing rescue mission following a devastating wave of earthquakes in the southeastern part of Turkey.

The 2015 AFCON Best Player was trapped under the rubble of broken down structures from the earthquakes that hit close to Gaziantep according to Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu.

Several of his teammates have been rescued by the specialist team but Atsu and Hatayspor Director Taner Savut remain unaccounted for.

He recently scored his debut goal for the club after enduring a frustrating time early on after joining the team as a free agent.

His goal proved to be the winner for Hatayspor that was the team’s sixth win in 21 games this season; the team ranks 14th in the 19 team league standings.

A 7. 8 and 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck Gaziantep respectively earlier today with the latter taking place at 10:30 GMT.

Atsu spent eight seasons in the English Premier League and played for Newcastle, Bournemouth and Everton before signing for Saudi side Al-Raed for the 2021-2022 season.
