Ghanaian winger Christian Atsu was caught under a rubble from the devastating earthquakes that hit Turkey and neighbouring Syria on Monday, February 6 for 26 hours according to Turkey based Journalist Yağız Sabuncuoğlu.

He confirmed Atsu’s situation had improved from early Monday when the former Newcastle winger was reported trapped under earthquake rubble that hit the Turkish border town with Syria, Hatay.

Speaking earlier today on the CITI Breakfast Show, Yağız Sabuncuoğlu confirmed Atsu has been rescued and has been hospitalized after spending a full day and two hours under the rubble.

“He was under the rubble for 26 hours…Rescue teams are going to Hatay right now from a lot of cities and still Hatay is waiting for health and rescue teams more and more because more than one million people have been affected by this earthquake” he said.

The 31 year old Atsu joined Hatayspor after spending eight years in the English Premier League playing for Bournemouth and Everton.

He starred for Ghana’s Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2015 African Cup of Nations.
