The news has triggered an outpouring of tributes from footballers and football club administrators.

Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo released a statement on his Twitter page commiserating with the late Atsu’s family.

Ghana Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that government will ensure Atsu gets “a befitting burial”.
