Pick a date that allows me to attend Atsu’s funeral – President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has requested the family of Christian Atsu to choose a date that will be favorable to his schedule as he would want to be in attendance at the funeral ceremony of the late Ghanaian footballer.

The request was tabled when the family of the late Christian Atsu visited the Jubilee house in Accra to officially inform the President of their son’s death.

Atsu perished after spending close to 12 days buried under rubble following the wave of earthquakes that have hit Turkey and Syria while he was playing from Turkish side Hatayaspor.

In attendance were the Ghana football Association (GFA), some Government officials as well as members of the Ada Traditional council.

President Akufo-Addo assured the family of the late Christian Atsu of government’s commitment to the funeral and humbly requested a date flexible to his schedule be picked as he would want to attend the ceremony.

“The only thing I would ask is that when you’re deciding on the date through the Minister for Sports you link up with my office to make sure that the date you choose is a date I will be here in Ghana because it is important I’d be present at his funeral at the state house to register the involvement of all the Ghanaian people” he said

“I will feel very bad if for some reason or another a date was chosen where I have obligations outside this country which I cannot overlook and therefore would not be present” he added.

The one week celebration of Christian Atsu’s passing will be held on Saturday the 4th of March 2023.
