Don’t create quota system for local players in the Black Stars – Dwomoh Agyeman

Veteran sports journalist, Kwame Dwomoh Agyeman has shot down the idea of creating a quota system for selecting players competing in the Ghana Premier League into the Black Stars.

He said this in an exclusive interview with CITI Sports following the announcement of the 25-man squad for the Black Stars’ upcoming two legged tie against Angola that had no player from the betPawa Ghana Premier League called up.

Contrary to the views of some football stakeholders who have called for a system where a set number of players from the Ghana League are guaranteed a place in the Black Stars, the long tenured Journalist believes only the best should be picked for the Black Stars.

“This is my personal view, I don’t think we should go with a quota system. I believe we should go with the very best that we have at any point in time. If the player is a local player and is good enough to play in the squad so be it. If the players who get called up are players who ply their trade abroad, so be it,” he said.

Accra Great Olympics head coach, Kobby Mensah supports the introduction of a quota system. (Click highlighted text to read full story). The games against Angola will be the first for new Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton.

Ghana leads Group E and takes on Angola in the first leg on Thursday, March 23 at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi at 16:00 GMT.
