PSV Eindhoven Technical Director Ernest Faber has pointed to a healthy promotion of competitions among age groups as the advantage the Dutch youth football system has over other nations.

He said this in an interview with CITI Sports in the company of former Black Stars defender Eric Addo who is a member of PSV’s scouting team during a working visit to Ghana’s Attram De Visser Academy.

The Dutch football system has produced a very long list of football legends including Clarence Seedorf, Edgar Davids, Ronald Koeman, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Kluivert.

Established stars Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay are also products of the PSV system.

Asked why Dutch football is so successful at producing top tier players, Faber,  said introducing players to constant competition is the main key.

Gakpo

“The advantage of the Dutch system is the competition. For every age, we have very good competition and if you are developing young players, it’s very important to have good competition between all ages. So the best train with the best, the best play against the best at every age and then we decide when young players go up to the higher ages to get more resistance” he stated.
