Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club goalkeeper Richmond Ayi has been dropped from the team in the lead up to the Phobians betPawa Ghana Premier League game against Accra Lions on Wednesday, March 29 at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Ayi made the headlines in Hearts last league outing by spotting a white substance smeared on his face and on his hair for the game. (Click highlighted text to read full story)

Hearts of Oak lost 0-3 to Karela United at the CAM Park at Ayinase and was the first time the team lost since assistant coach David Ocloo took over lead head coaching role as head coach Slavko Matic continues to stay away from the team after a run in with some fans at Hearts’ Pobiman facility.

Ayi’s awkward look sent social media into a complete meltdown with many suggesting the look was inspired “juju” directives to win the game.

The incident was widely reported and condemned by football stakeholders who believe Ayi’s act further hurt the betPawa Ghana league’s brand.

Veteran shot stopper Eric Ofori Antwi has been named as the starter against Lions with Eric Esso captaining the team.

Below is the team sheet for both teams:
