I won’t underestimate players from Ghana Premier League – Chris Hughton

Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has stated he will not underestimate players from the betPawa Ghana Premier League.

He said this when he was unveiled officially as head coach of the four-time AFCON winners ahead of the Black Stars’ 2023 AFCON qualifier against Angola on Thursday, March 23 at 16:00 GMT.

His first call-up had no player from the Ghana League called up to the Black Stars, raising concerns about the quality of Ghana’s top flight club football competition.

“From the day I started being involved with the Association [Ghana Football Association] which is about one year ago, I was made aware and stressed upon how important the local game is important to the Association and to us as technical staff…so I certainly will not underestimate them [Ghana Premier League players] where I think I can add value in my new role is that I will be spending more time in Ghana.

I will be watching more games, I will be attending to more clubs and getting to know the league far better. The only reason I wasn’t before was because our concentration was on the[2022] World Cup campaign,” he said.
