Ghanaian boxer Sena Agbeko has lashed out after his scheduled fight against highly rated Cuban David Morrell Jr. was cancelled over alleged medical concerns for Agbeko after an MRI scan.
The 31 year old was set to fight Morrell for the WBA Super Middleweight title on Saturday, April 22 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on the undercard of the Ryan Garcia-Gervonta Davis fight.
According to Agbeko, he was cleared by two medical doctors for the fight but the Nevada Athletic Commission declined to give him the license to fight Morrell on April 22. His Publicist released a press statement to this effect.
“Hiding behind the commission David Morrell Jr….Boxing has more cowards than any sport. It’s no longer what it once was. It’s just one big business arrangement. I’m not mad at the game. Just gotta to learn to play it well” Agbeko wrote on Facebook. (Click highlighted text to watch video)
The 25 year old southpaw Morrell will now face 2012 Olympic Games bronze medalist Yamaguchi Falcao in place of Agbeko on Saturday. Morell has won all eight fights in his pro career after a decorated amateur career.
Falcao is a 35 year old Brazilian who has 24 wins, a loss and a draw in his professional career and is coming off a technical knockout win over Ghanaian fighter Ernest Amuzu.
