European leagues overshadowing local league due to bad scheduling – Yusif Chibsah

Ex-Kumasi Asante Kotoko Midfielder, Yusif Chibsah, has outlined a number of factors rendering the local top-flight league unattractive in the last couple of seasons.

Ghana’s topmost league has not churned out the best of numbers with respect to spectatorship at the various venues this season.

In an exclusive interview with Citi Sports, the Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko and King Faisal player wants the scheduling of league matches to be revised for next season and also charged match officials to deliver at their utmost best in a bid to make the local league competitive and appealing.

He stressed on the importance of having the local games at favorable times for football fans to patronize.

It is a whole lot of factors and for me i personally think we should have a competitor analysis to see what are the other competing games with the local league [betpawa premier league], that is a huge factor.

One area that i also think should be taken a look at, is the officiating, it has not been the best and i think that it is another issue which is discouraging people to come to the stadium.

The fans think that some of the referees are not up to the task, and that is a huge factor discouraging people from watching the football.

This is a whole topic that needs to be discussed.

The foreign games on the digital platforms is also posing a huge factor, it is posing a big competition for our local league.

In Ghana, support for the local leagues has been eclipsed by an intense dedication to the top European leagues.

Football fans have been drawn to foreign clubs, especially the English Premier League.

While local league teams play in almost deserted stadia, audiences crowd around televisions to follow the latest matches of the English Premier League, the Spanish La Liga, or UEFA Champions League.

Poor spectatorship, hooliganism, poor officiating have widely been the most-talked about topics this season in the 2022/23 Betpawa Premier League.

The premier league enters match-week 30 this weekend, with Aduana FC sitting at the summit of the table with 51 points.
