In observance of its silver jubilee, the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre at the esteemed Korle Bu Teaching Hospital organized a Health Walk and conducted a comprehensive sensitization initiative on Saturday, 13th May 2023.

The participants, comprising members of the Centre, embarked on an invigorating walk commencing from the Ayi Mensah Toll Booth and culminating at the picturesque Peduase Valley Resort, their bodies adorned with perspiration.

Furthermore, informative flyers were distributed among the general public to promote awareness of good health practices.

This event represents the third engagement in a series of activities designed to celebrate the momentous silver jubilee, following the grand launch on April 21, 2023, and the Breast and Cervical cancer screening event at Shai Osudoku District Hospital in Dodowa.

Ms. Sabina Kotei, the Administrator for the Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre, emphasized the profound significance of the Health Walk and the educational campaign in relation to public health.

“As you are aware, a sedentary lifestyle can contribute to various non-communicable diseases. Engaging in regular exercise yields numerous health benefits that enhance overall well-being,” she explained.

“We are diligently creating awareness within Aburi and its surrounding areas so that individuals can gain knowledge about various types of cancers.”

She further emphasized the importance of promptly seeking medical attention when encountering any abnormalities in one’s body.

“Remember that cancers can affect any part of your body. If you notice any unusual changes, such as in your breast, it is crucial to visit a hospital for assessment,” Ms. Kotei advised.

“When diagnosed with cancer and referred to the Oncology Centre at the renowned Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, it is imperative to consider it a matter of utmost urgency and seek appropriate medical care.”

Ms. Kotei underscored that the Centre has trained nurses, doctors, physicists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals who possess the expertise to effectively manage and treat various forms of cancer.

The itinerary for the 25th Anniversary celebration of the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital will culminate with a vibrant durbar, an awards night, and a fundraising event to be held at the esteemed Alisa Hotel on Friday, May 26, 2023.

Moreover, this occasion will serve as the platform to launch the flagship survivorship program of the Centre, facilitating interaction between the public and courageous cancer survivors.

A Thanksgiving Service will then take place at the Accra Chapel at Korle Bu on Sunday, May 28, 2023.
