Not playing at home venue played key role in Kotoku’s relegation- Okatakyie Afrifa

Akyem Kotoku Royals Rush Football Club Public Relations Officer Okatakyie Afrifa has fingered the team’s inability to play at the Oda Stadium as one of the major reasons behind Kotoku’s quick return to Division One.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after the team’s relegation from the 2022-2023 betPawa Ghana Premier League season.

Royals rank bottom of the 18 team league with 23 points after picking up just six wins, five draws and 19 losses in 30 games.

Afrifa took a swipe at politicians for failing to honour their promise to revamp the Oda Stadium that led to Kotoku playing home games at the Cape Coast Stadium and far away from their fans.

“I believe that the major problem is that a young club like Kotoku Royals that isn’t experienced and… we couldn’t also play at our home ground. Before we qualified to the Premier League, we played 15 Division One games at Akim Oda Sports Stadium, we won 14, we drew one.

When it comes to Oda Stadium, Kotoku Royals strength is there. We couldn’t even play one match at Oda and I believe that is the biggest disappointment that the people supporting Oda couldn’t even witness of the league matches” he said.
