Nikolas Nartey’s Stuttgart retain Bundesliga status via playoff win

Danish midfielder Nikolas Nartey is in line to compete in the 2023-2024 Bundesliga season for Stuttgart with the team retaining its Bundesliga status after securing a 6-1 playoff aggregate win over Hamburger SV.

Stuttgart beat Hamburger 3-1 in the second playoff game after recording a 3-0 win in the first leg with Sonny Kittel grabbing the consolation goal for Hamburger.

The 23 year old Nartey played 24 minutes off the bench in the 3-1 win after making a six minute cameo in the first leg off the bench. The Denmark born player showed off his versatility by lining up in central midfield in the 3-0 win while playing as a left back in the return leg.

The former FC Cologne player battled injuries this season; he missed extensive time due to a torn muscle fibre and abductor muscle issues. Nartey is eligible to play for Ghana’s Black Stars through his father despite representing Denmark at the junior levels.

Hamburger forward Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer played 18 minutes off the bench in the 1-3 loss mere hours before receiving a late call up to play in the Black Stars 2023 AFCON qualifier against Madagascar on June 18.

Konigsdorffer steps in as an injury replacement for Inaki Williams who pulled out due to a knee injury.
