Sensitizing fans against hooliganism must be prioritized – Bofoakwa Tano CEO

Chief Executive Officer for Bofoakwa Tano, Alexander Ababio has urged the Ghana Football Association to expedite punishments meted out to hooligans in a quest to eradicate the menace entirely from the sport.

The football space in Ghana has been dominated by acts of hooliganism from various league centers in the last couple of seasons.

Speaking to Citi Sports in an exclusive interview, Alexander Ababio believes that sensitizing fans to shy away from the act must be prioritized by the Ghana Football Association and other stakeholders in the sport.

“For me, I have always said that if fans misbehave, they should be disciplined very well, I think they will stop all those things.”

“For us at Sunyani, we played our league matches the whole season and nothing actually happened this season.”

“Apart from that, we have to continue to educate the fans to understand the game, some people think that when you are playing at home, you have to win at all costs, that should not be the case.”

“We are not going to sit down and let hooliganism take over our football, after a very lengthy spell back in the division on the league, we will not allow that.” he told Citi Sports

Hooliganism is one of the biggest challenges affecting domestic football in Ghana.

This season’s premier league suffered a number of acts, with the latest at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park where fans of the home team, Aduana FC attacked players and officials of Tamale City after the game.

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association subsequently slapped a temporary ban on Aduana FC  preventing them from using the Nana Agyemang Badu I Park as its home venue.

The premier league enters the final week, with Medeama Sporting Club sitting at the summit of the premier league table with 57 points and could be crowned Champions for the first time as they take on Tamale City on Sunday, June 11, 2023
