GPL WK 34: “We must not be complacent against Tamale City” – Dr.Tony Aubynn

Board Chairman for Medeama Sporting Club, Dr. Tony Aubynn, has advised the team to avoid complacency as they head into their final clash against Tamale City at the Akoon Park on Sunday, June 11, 2023.

The Yellow and Mauves could be crowned Champions for the first time in the Club’s history with a win or draw against the Tamale-based side in the match week 34 fixture.

Medeama currently sits top of the premier league table with 57 points, having scored 41 goals and conceded 29 this season.

Speaking to Citi Sports in an exclusive interview, Dr. Tony Aubynn said he was confident they could go ahead and clinch the title for the first time.

By and large Coach Evans Addotey, has actually stabilised the fort since he came, he has stabilised things.

W have seen the pattern of play, that Medeama SC is playing these day, so thanks and congrats to him.

But i must quickly say that, we are close to getting the trophy, we are very sure we will get it.

We always want to caution that, it is not automic, if we dont win and Bechem United win, it will be a different story.

So much as we are very hopeful of wining, we are cautious of not being complacent. We need to win or at worse draw, to lift the trophy for the first time.

Medeama SC and Bechem United will vie for the Premier League title on the final day of the season.

The teams are separated by three points in the League after 33 rounds of matches as Medeama leads the table with 57 points – three points richer than Bechem United who are in second place with 54 points.

Whiles, Medeama SC need one point to win the title, Bechem United aim to beat Aduana FC and hope for a Medeama SC setback against Tamale City at Akoon Park.

The Tarkwa-based side moved to the top of the table on Sunday, May 21, 2023, after an emphatic 5-1 win over Accra Hearts of Oak in a Matchday 31 fixture at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Coach Evans Addotey’s side followed up with a 2-1 home win against King Faisal, and subsequently held to a goalless draw by Samartex at the Nsenkyire Sports Complex in the match week 33 fixture.
