Ghanaian winger Emmanuel Gyasi’s Spezia Calcio have been relegated from the Italian Serie A after suffering a 1-3 loss to Hellas Verona.

Gyasi was not in the squad for unspecified reasons meaning the 29 year old couldn’t add to his two goal, one assist tally in 36 games.

Gyasi’s Angolan teammate M’bala Nzola missed a penalty kick while Welsh international Ethan Ampadu grabbed the consolation goal for Spezia.

Ampadu who is of Ghanaian descent through his father, suffered a third straight relegation from a top flight division after suffering similar fates at Sheffield United and Venezia as a Chelsea FC loanee.

Born in Italy, Gyasi committed to play international football for Ghana in 2021 and has represented the Black Stars three times.

The game was a playoff tie that ended Spezia’s three season run in the Italian top flight; despite finishing 17th in the just ended in the 2022-2023 season.

A rule change meant teams tied on points in the relegation battle had to be separated via a one game playoff game played at a neutral venue. Spezia suffered the loss at Sassuolo’s Mapei Stadium.
