Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has expressed major disappointment over his team’s goalless draw against Madagascar.

The four-time African champions played poorly in Antananarivo, in a 2023 AFCON Group E qualifier in the penultimate round of qualifiers; a win would have seen Ghana clinch a place in the upcoming edition of the continental championship.

Ghana stays atop the group standings with nine points after recording two wins and three draws in five games. Angola and Central African Republic (CAR) rank second and third respectively with eight and seven points.

Hughton opened up about his frustrations in the post-game presser where he also highlighted the importance of beating Central African Republic in the final round of qualifiers to seal qualification to the next AFCON.

“We are very disappointed. We came here with an attitude and a mindset to win but to win any football match, you need to score goals and we found it difficult today. The pitch is difficult, it’s a very uneven pitch but it’s the same for both teams…the fact that we didn’t score is the most disappointing thing. (Click highlighted text to watch interview)

Our strategy for the next match is to win. We are playing at home. We know we have to get a result. Obviously, it’s a game we know the consequences if we don’t win”
