Ghanaian midfielder Hans Nunoo Sarpei has opened up about his blood ties to former Black Stars defender Hans Adu Sarpei.

The nephew of the standout defender in Ghana’s 2008 AFCON and 2010 FIFA World Cup campaigns said that though it felt great his uncle starred for the Black Stars, it had not impact on his decision to play football.

Adu Sarpei played out his career at various clubs in Germany including Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke 04; with Schalke he won the German Cup in the 2010-2011 season.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports after donating library materials to two schools in the Ashiedu Keteke District in Ghana’s capital, Accra.

“Yes he is my uncle. Football runs in our family so when I was young I was already playing football. It’s like a gift that has been given to me.

This is my destiny, to play football. My dad also played, my other uncle (Edward Sarpei) also played so it’s in the family.”

Nunoo Sarpei

24 year old Nunoo Sarpei is with Ingolstadt and played 33 games in all competitions in the 2022-2023 season scoring a goal and adding an assist.
