U-23 AFCON: Seek psychological help – Charles Taylor advices Afriyie Barnieh

Ex-Hearts of Oak star, Charles Taylor says Black Meteors captain, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh should seek for the help of a psychologist following a string of bad performances.

In Ghana’s victory in the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations against Congo, the 22-year-old goal poacher seemed out of sync and failed to make a significant impact.

Consequently, he was substituted at half-time for Emmanuel Yeboah, whose arrival instantly revitalized the team.

Speaking in an interview with Angel TV, Charles Taylor said he needs the urgent attention of a psychologist to prevent a further deterioration in form for the U-20 AFCON winning skipper.

“He has lost focus on the field.

If he doesn’t receive proper psychological support, his performance could deteriorate even further.

You can simply compare his previous performances to his current state; he might even fare worse than Adiyiah”.

Taylor likened Afriyie Barnieh’s situation to that of 2009 U-20 Golden boy, Dominic Adiyiah who never was able to reach his full potential after signing for AC Milan.

“Adiyiah’s situation was relatively better.

Let’s consider how many matches Afriyie Barnieh has played since joining FC Zurich.

We need to question what happened to him upon his arrival in Zurich.

He needs guidance to focus on moving forward and stop dwelling on past glories.

He is just starting out, which is why he needs to give more,” he added.
