Kwesi Donsu, the captain of recently crowned betPawa Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama SC says winning the African Champions league is possible for the side.
Medeama became GPL champions on the final match day of the 2022/23 season.
Needing either a win or a draw to secure the title, the men from Tarwka rose to the occasion in grand style, defeating relegated Tamale City 3-0 to make them the first team from the country’s Western Region to win the top-flight title.
Kwesi Donsu, who had the honour of lifting the trophy for the first time, believes the Tarwka-based club can go all the way and make Ghana proud on the African stage.
“I sometimes don’t understand why some people think Ghanaian clubs can’t win the Africa Champions league. We should not aim just to add up to the numbers or to target only the group stages, remember Medeama has been in Africa before and we got some huge results. Our league is blessed with top quality players who are equally similar to those playing in other African countries and clubs,” he said in an interview with Akoma FM in Kumasi.
“We are only behind in a few areas and I believe management and the Board of Medeama will put up the right procedures that will help us make history,” he added
“Winning the Africa champions league is possible for Medeama and we will keep working hard for it.”
Kwesi Donsu, born December 2, 1995, has been at Medeama SC since 2013, however, he had a spell in the 2019 season with Colorado Springs Switchbacks as Ghana’s league season was on hold.
He eventually returned to Ghana after the 2019 USL Championship season ended.
