Chairman of the MTN FA Cup Committee, Wilson Arthur, has bemoaned the lack of star players in the competition and labeled the situation as the main reason behind low patronage of games in the tournament.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports when asked about the biggest challenge confronting the competition.
“Patronage has been a major problem and it has to do with the stars that have been robbed from our league. Every player who does well in one season is sold and we know that in the entertainment business, people pay to go and watch stars so if your clubs if your leagues are without stars, it affects the competition.”
Dreams FC won the competition for the first time in the 2022-2023 season, recording a 2-0 win over King Faisal FC in the final played at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Stadium.
By virtue of winning the title, Dreams FC qualified to compete in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup and will face Guinea’s Milo FC in the first round.
