Black Stars defender Mohammed Salisu has garnered serious interest from French Ligue 1 side AS Monaco this off-season.

According to French outlet, Foot Mercato, the Southampton player is seen as a replacement for fellow left footed center back Axel Disasi.

French international Disasi has been heavily linked to Manchester United with the Red Devils searching for an upgrade on the disappointing Harry Maguire in its back line.

Malang Sarr’s loan spell at Monaco has come to an end and the French defender has been recalled to parent club Chelsea.

After struggling with limited minutes and injuries in his debut season, Salisu has emerged over the past two seasons as a solid center back who was picked out by West Ham United’s Michail Antonio as one of the toughest players he played against this past season. Southampton’s relegation to the English Championship from the Premier League means The Saints top performers including James Ward-Prowse, Romeo Lavia and Sekou Mara are likely to leave to leave the club.

Salisu played 45 minutes in Southampton’s 0-2 loss to Portuguese side Benfica; the 24 year old missed the latter part of the past season after picking up a knee injury.
