Ex-Administrative Manager and Head of Legal Affairs for Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Samuel Sarfo Duku, believes outgoing CEO, Nana Yaw Amponsah’s tenure at the club cannot be tagged as a failure, despite the backlash from some sections of the fans.
His comment comes on the back of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s decision to dissolve the Board and management after the end of their three-year mandate.
Asked about what he makes of Amponsah’s tenure as CEO, Sarfo Duku called for a proper introspection to be done by the Club’s life patron.
He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports.
“Before we can make a definite conclusion, we would have to analyze the terms of reference vis a vis what he was able to achieve.
“Generally, if you look at the performance of the team, I don’t think they fared badly at all.”
“With the divisions between the management team and the Board, which led to the dissolution of the Board, I would say he did not perform up to people’s expectations.”
“Before he [Nana Yaw Amponsah] came, the expectations of the fans were so high. But I think he has done his part. Others are saying that he would have performed better if he were to be given another chance, but the issues were such that Otumfuo thought otherwise.”
“So I won’t say he is a failure, I would say he did not perform to people’s expectations.”
Nana Yaw Amponsah was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Asante Kotoko SC back in August 2020.
He has worked with four different coaches, including Maxwell Konadu, who is now the Head Coach for Nsoatreman Football Club, Portuguese Gaffer Mariano Barreto, Prosper Narteh Ogum, who led the team to their 24th premier league title and Seydou Zerbo, who left the club in a very interesting fashion.
The Porcupine Warriors have won one Premier League under Amponsah’s administration.
The young football administrator also managed to align the club with partnerships.
Agreements will help the club achieve the elite status on the African continent they are looking for.
In addition, the club secured sponsorships that will give the team the needed push with the objective of restoring the club to its past glory once results are produced on the field of play.
