RICHARD HAMMOND, CEO OF GLADYS AYEBEA HAMMOND FOUNDATION

Renowned hockey enthusiast, Richard Hammond firmly believes that the forthcoming second edition of the Gladys Ayebea Hockey Tournament will serve as a catalyst for reviving the sport while also unearthing promising young talents.

This prestigious hockey championship, an integral part of the celebrated Odwira Festival, is scheduled to take place on the 24th and 25th of November 2023, at the esteemed location of Suhum in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Richard Hammond, the CEO of the Gladys Ayebea Hammond Foundation shared his compelling vision during the organisation’s launch event in Accra, which was aptly themed “Opening Doors, Igniting Change.

“We will be organizing an annual hockey tournament in Suhum every November.

But it’s not going to be just this hockey tournament that is going to be organized every year.

We will also be setting up a mentorship scheme. We will be identifying young talent for further development in hockey.

We will be promoting educational activities and we will be offering educational scholarships.”

The Foundation, which commenced its noble mission in 2022 as a tribute to the cherished memory of Madam Gladys Ayebea Hammond, a Ghanaian with an ardour for both sports and education, is steadfast in its pursuit of promoting social mobility through the power of sports.

At the heart of this commendable cause, the hockey championship aims to inculcate a sense of healthy competition among students while fostering camaraderie and excellence in the sporting arena.
