Gifty Oware-Mensah, an aspirant for the Ghana Football Association Executive Council, has expressed a strong conviction that Ampem Darkoa Ladies will emerge victorious in the ongoing WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

With a 4-2 victory secured in their opening match against Togo’s Amis Du Monde, the Ghana Women’s Premier League Champions have now advanced to the semi-finals from the three-team Group B.

This is after the Togolese side also lost 2-0 to Athletico FC d’Abidjan from La Cote D’Ivoire.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies beat Athletico FC d’Abidjan 3-0 in their final group match on Friday, August 25, 2023.

Gifty Oware-Mensah told Citi Sports:

“They will do very well more than they have done. And then we pray that they are going to bring the cup. If they are not able to believe that Ghana would lift the cup going forward because you’re going to get a better league system,”

The Chief Executive Officer of Women’s Premier League side, Berry Ladies further lauded the support that Women’s Champions received ahead of the competition.

“It’s a team that is representing Ghana and not just themselves. But at this point, we don’t even call them just Ampem Darkoa. They are the Ghana Team. The FA has supported us for the first time with about $20,000 and still keeps supporting us. So, these are the things I believe we have done for them. And other club owners have also supported with many other things, including even technical support.”

Ampem Darkoa Ladies lost the finals of last year’s competition to Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens.

This year, Nigeria’s Delta Queens, who pose the major threat to Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ qualification to the next CAF Women’s Champions, started the competition on a good note by beating USFA of Burkina Faso 3-0.

The Queens brushed aside Sam Nelly from Benin 2-0 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in their final group match.
