Leader of Ghana’s delegation to the Giants of Africa Festival (GOA), Feranmi Olunloyo, says improvement in youth basketball development in recent times was key to Ghana getting an invitation to the Festival.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports ahead of the event that runs from August 13 to August 19 in Kigali, Rwanda.

Giants of Africa is a celebration of youth basketball on the African continent and is a brainchild of Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri.

Olunloyo emphasized the role of Ghana hosting and participating in the FIBA Africa Under 16 Zone 3 Championship and University of Cape Coast’s triumph at the African University Games in the 3×3 event.

“The GOA camps are actually a major part of the process…when the time for the festival came, obviously Ghana was one of the countries that was called but apart from that I think that Ghana has pretty much done well.

Recently, the Under 16 we came second, UCC qualified for the international university games; all those things are reasons.”

16 teams representing 16 African countries will participate in the GOA Festival. Thomas Amedeku will coach Team Ghana in Rwanda.
