CAF CL : Medeama SC through to next round after 3-2 penalty shootout win against Remo Stars

Ghana Premier League champions, Medeama secured qualification for the next round of the CAF Champions League after winning the second leg of the qualifiers via the penalty shootouts in Nigeria.

The Mauve and Yellow defeated Nigeria’s Remo Stars 1-0 in the first leg of the preliminary round at the Cape Coast Stadium last weekend.

They protected the slender goal until the 73rd minute in Ikene during the second leg before they allowed it go when the home side pulled a goal.

The game went into penalty shootouts after full time with the Yellow & Mauves claiming a 3-2 penalty shootouts victory at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikene.

It is Medeama’s debut campaign in the CAF Champions League having had two appearances in the second-tier club competition, the CAF Confederation Cup in 2013 and 2015.

Medeama will now face Guinea giants, Horoya Athletic Club in the next round of the qualifiers.
