Black Stars defender Mohammed Salisu says he wants to be available for selection by AS Monaco head coach Adi Hutter and serving Hutter’s needs.
He said this in his first official interaction with the media after signing to join AS Monaco this offseason from Southampton for 15 million euros.
Salisu spent three seasons in the English Premier League after a brief run in the Spanish League with Real Valladolid and was one of Southampton’s better performers in the 2022-2023 season that had the Saints get relegated to the English Championship.
After praising the quality of the French League and Monaco, the 24 year old talked up how he fits into Hutter’s scheme. (Click highlighted text to read story)
“I am able to play in both systems, with three or four defenders. My preferred position? To be honest, I’m more used to playing as a left-sided central defender, that’s where I played with Southampton.
But I can also play centrally in a three-man defense. At the end of the day, no matter where I start, I want, above all, to be available to the coach and his needs.”
Salisu’s Monaco contract runs to 2028.
