I’m ready to serve Kotoko in any capacity – Amos Frimpong

Former skipper of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Amos Frimpong has opened up about taking on a role at the club if called upon by its life Patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

He said this in the wake of the commissioning of an Interim Management Committee by the Otumfuo, following the dissolution of the Nana Yaw Amponsah led-management and Board, after the expiration of their three-year mandate.

The club’s Board, now defunct, was established in 2020 with businessman Dr Kwame Kyei as its Chair, while Jude Arthur served as his vice.

Evelyn Nsiah Asare, who is the Chief Executive Officer for Hasaacas Ladies, Kofi Amoah Abban, MD of RigWorld Oil Group, Martin Osei Brown, CEO of Joshob Construction Company, Nana Ankobeahene of Asanteman – Baffour Kwame Kusi, Alhaji Lamin and Joseph Yaw Adu were the other members of the Board.

Although stacked with resourceful and experienced minds, its inability to resolve conflicts meant success was limited.

Conflicts between the Board Chair, Dr Kwame Kyei and Chief Executive Officer, Nana Yaw Amponsah were a constant feature of the past three years.

Unperturbed by the past drama between the dissolved Board and management team, Amos Frimpong hopes to give it a try if the chance presents itself.

He added that, though he is yet to hang up his boots, he is ready to serve the porcupine family in any capacity.

The 31-year-old right back, who currently plies his trade with Guinean side, Club Industriel de Kamsar, lauded the new ICM put in place which sees the return of Coach Prosper Narteh Ogum to the side.

In an interview with Citi Sports, Frimpong revealed he would not hesitate if called upon.

“At the moment I am still active, I haven’t given up on football.”

“Any position I will be given, I will not hesitate to come and share my experience, if I am called upon to come and help the club.”

Amos Frimpong called on the club’s supporters to troop to the stadium and rally behind the team in the upcoming season.

According to him, supporters play a massive role in the team’s progress, citing the unimpressive numbers that turned out in the latter part of the season at the club’s home grounds.

“With the new appointment, I am sure things are going to be difficult at the club, but I believe if the supporters rally their support behind the club and give the players the needed support, the club can perform well and win some trophies.”

“With the little experience I gathered from my time at the club, in the seasons where we have the full support of the club, we tend to perform well. But If it is otherwise, the season becomes difficult.”

“This coming season, I am pleading with the supporters of the club to support the club really well, because without them the club does not function well.”

Kotoko’s first game of the 2023/24 league season is against newly-promoted side, Heart of Lions at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, before heading to Bibiani to face Gold Stars in the second week.

Prosper Narteh Ogum who steered the Porcupines to a 24th premier league title in his first stint at the club in the 2021/22 league campaign will be hoping to replicate that form in his second coming.

The 2023/24 premier league season commences on September 15, 2023.
