McDan Seniors Football Academy became the crowned winners of the very first Health Champions Cup held in Ghana, organized by Green Sports Africa in partnership with the MasterCard Foundation.
The Health Champions Cup aims to provide chances for young and upcoming footballers who aspire to make their careers professional.
McDan Seniors fought from behind to defeat their rivals, Esjade Academy, in the final of the tournament.
The event began with 34 teams from the Greater Accra Region and took place at McDan La Town in Accra on Sunday.
Being champions of the debut edition of the seven-a-side tournament, McDan Seniors received a prize of US$600, a trophy, a set of jerseys, and gold medals at the exciting final.
Esjade Academy, the runners-up, received US$200, jerseys, and silver medals, while the third-placed team earned bronze medals.
The Head Trainer of McDan Seniors, David Kabu Adjovu, praised the tournament’s organizers and encouraged them to keep supporting young footballers’ development.
“I’m happy our side won the competition, but I believe it’s a victory for all participants in this great initiative by Green Sports Africa and the MasterCard Foundation. If you understand the inner feelings of these young talents, you’ll be amazed. You saw their dedication and enthusiasm on the field.” He stated.
“This experience will stay with them as they grow into top professional footballers. I hope to see more tournaments like this. Green Sports Africa and the MasterCard Foundation are welcomed again next year,” he concluded.
Players and coaches also benefited from health training on personal hygiene, disease prevention, mental well-being, and reproductive health last Friday.
