Black Stars head coach Chris Hughton has underscored the importance of Ghana’s 2023 AFCON qualifier against Central African Republic (CAR) on Thursday, September 7 at the Baba Yara Stadium.

He said this at the pregame press conference as the Black Stars prepare to play out its final qualification game with the four time African champion needing a win or a draw to secure its place at the competition that is set to be held in Cote D’Ivoire.

CAR needs to win at all cost to qualify to the 2023 AFCON and the importance of avoiding a loss isn’t lost on Hughton.

“This is our objective. We’re very conscious of what this game means. Not only the nation but of course myself, the players and everybody involved, they know what this game means. Preparation has been good, as with all international camps, sometimes you miss players through injuries and of course we are missing some through injuries but of course but it’s always an opportunity for others.

We are playing at home, we have a good record here and it’s a record we want to continue.”
