Former Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club Managing Director, Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, has lauded the efforts of Hearts Executive Chairman Togbe Afede XIV to establish an autonomous football league in Ghana.

He said this in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports as work continues to establish the new format for football in Ghana’s top flight division. The autonomous league is expected to commence in the 2024-2025 season.

Enumerating the benefits of replicating what has worked so well for the English Premier League in Great Britain and the Premier Soccer League in South Africa, veteran football administrator, Armstrong-Mortagbe was effusive about Togbe Afede XIV’s contributions.

“Our Executive Chairman Togbe Afede XIV is at the vanguard of the establishment of the autonomous league. He is leading the efforts to get it established so for me it’s no wonder Hearts of Oak is the first club to pay the affiliation (fee) that will establish the company that will run the autonomous league as decided by the clubs.”
