Eddie Nketiah’s hopes of playing for England’s National Men’s Football Team, The Three Lions, continues despite getting called up to the team for the first time.

The Arsenal forward wasn’t included in the match day squad for England as the Three Lions battled to a 1-1 draw with Ukraine in a Euro 2024 qualifier.

England leads Group C with 13 points with Ukraine in second place on seven points.

Former Manchester City defender Oleksandr Zinchenko scored for Ukraine in the 26th minute but England got the equalizer through Man City defender Kyle Walker in the 41st minute.

Born to Ghanaian parents in England, Nketiah is still eligible to play for Ghana’s Black Stars after not featuring in the Euro qualifier.

It was quite a shocking turn of events for the 24 year old who was rearing to get his national team debut at the senior level but ended up getting omitted from the squad despite England boss Gareth Southgate naming three goalkeepers in his team that played against Ukraine.

In the lead up to the game, Nketiah stated that choosing England over Ghana was a natural progression for his career. The forward has two goals in four games this season.

Nketiah might get his chance to play for the Three Lions later this week when England takes on Scotland on September 12 in a friendly game.
