Ghana and Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams has been nominated for the Player of the Month Award in La Liga in September.
The 29 year old forward’s impressive form since the international break has had him score three times and provide an assist thus far in the month.
Williams scored in the 62nd minute in Bilbao’s 2-2 draw with Getafe; Bilbao played the entire second half with 10 men after Oihan Sancet was red carded.
Getafe forward Mason Greenwood played for the first time since joining the team on loan from Manchester United after a lengthy absence due to legal troubles over sexual allegations.
Grabbing a goal against Getafe means Williams has scored in three straight games for a fourth ranked Bilbao team in the 20 team La Liga standings.
However, Williams generated a lot of controversy over his comments directed at Getafe head coach Jose Bordalas. The pair exchanged words and Bordalas was red carded and forced to leave his technical area.
Williams stated, “I don’t like time stopping like this, I went to tell Bordalás about this, it’s his thing. Everyone in La Liga has an understanding of him and we know how his team plays. I think it’s a shame.”
Williams impressive form for Bilbao contrasts sharply with his form for Ghana’s Black Stars; Williams is yet to score for Ghana after making nine appearances.
